Aston Villa Hand Embarrassing 3-1 Defeat to Man United

Unai Emery began his term as Aston Villa’s new manager with a bang, as the club dealt a humbling 3-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, 6 November.

The Lions hosted the Red Devils at Villa Park Stadium in Birmingham, England, marking the match as their first English Premier League home win against Man United since 1995.

Emery, who replaced Steven Gerrard at the end of last month, has been credited with a “dream debut” by pundits.

Villa were vicious from the start, as the first goal happened just seven minutes into the match by striker Leon Bailey with an assist from his team-mate, Jacob Ramsey.

Eleven minutes in, and defender Lucas Digne secured a sublime second goal for the hosts.

Man United’s only goal came at the 45th-minute-mark, as Villa’s midfielder Ramsey, deflected a flying ball from the Red Devil’s Diogo Dalot which accidentally became an own goal.

Villa earned the final goal of the game just four minutes after the second half resumed, as Ramsey recovered his reputation with an assist from his team-mate, forward Ollie Watkins.

Man United manager, Erik ten Hag, subsequently called their loss “unacceptable” in the post-match press conference.
