Barcelona to Keep Coutinho Despite Injury Woes
Philippe Coutinho is set to spend another season at Camp Nou, as the club reportedly has not received any transfer bids for the midfielder due to concerns over the injury he suffered in December 2020.
The 29-year-old Brazilian joined the Blaugranas in 2018 on a record-breaking deal worth €135million from Liverpool, however, Coutinho has struggled to find form in Spain – something which saw him being sent on a season-long loan at Bayern Munich from 2019 until 2020.
Upon his return to Camp Nou, the attacking midfielder suffered a serious knee injury, which ruled him out for the rest of the season – having made only 12 appearances.
Coutinho’s injury recovery has taken much longer than the club’s medical staff expected, and he had to undergo a second operation in April 2021.
Considering his situation, no club seems willing to take a risk on Coutinho, and therefore Barcelona boss, Ronald Koeman, has decided to keep him for another season.
The former Liverpool ‘little magician’ is reportedly set for Barcelona’s pre-season, with the hopes of impressing Koeman ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
