BET Hip Hop Award Nominations Make Mzansi Proud
South African rappers Nadia Nakai and Blxckie are amongst the nominees for the 2022 Black Entertainment Television Hip Hop awards, which will be held at the end of the month, 30 September.
The nominees for the Best International Flow category – which both artists were selected for – were announced via Twitter on Monday, 12 September, with Gabonese star Benjamin Epps and Ghana’s Black Sherif amongst their competition.
The ceremony, which will be held at the Cobb Energy Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, will also be attended by well-known artists Drake (who has received 14 nominations), Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and others. The proceedings will be televised a few days later on 4 October.
Blxckie appears to be on a roll at the moment, as the rapper won the Best Hip Hop Album at the South African Music Awards in Sun City, North West, two weeks ago.
Both local artists responded with excitement on Twitter, as Blxckie shared a simple “mind-blown” emoji, while Nakai tweeted, “Amazing! Thank you!”
While tweeps’ reactions to Nakai’s nomination have been mixed, it’s clear that Blxckie – whose real name is Sihle Sithole – has nothing but support from Mzansi.
“Blxckie, bring it home for us,” said one user named Boy in the Major.
