Betway Premiership: Polokwane Beat Chippa 2-1

Polokwane City clawed their way to a convincing 2-1 Betway Premiership win over Chippa United on Sunday, 21 September.

Playing at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo, the hosts looked unsettled early on when Chippa’s Ayabulela Konqobe sent the ball into the bottom corner of the net to secure a goal in the fifth minute.

However, Polokwane eventually picked up the pace in both defence and attack, to the point they maintained 62% possession of the ball throughout the match.

The equaliser came in the 45th minute when skipper Lebohang Nkaki successfully converted a penalty shot.

The second half saw both teams denying each other opportunities to break the 1-1 stalemate. Ultimately, Polokwane walked away with the victory after the game went into injury time, when Thabang Matuludi scored a header in the 94th minute.

As a result of their resounding victory, Polokwane City currently occupy fourth place on the Premier Soccer League rankings with 12 points. As for Chippa United, they sit dead last in 16th place with a meagre four points.
