Boity Thulo Breaks Silence Over Perfume Potshots

Media personality and entrepreneur Boity Thulo is focusing on the positives amid social media ridicule about her failed fragrance line.

Back in 2020, Thulo launched the Boity Pink Sapphire perfume in collaboration with Halo Heritage. To purchase a 100ml bottle, you would need to pay R1 495 at the time.

For the past four years, prices for the same bottle have ranged between R595 and R640 at various retailers – now, if recent pics being shared on social media are anything to go by, Pink Sapphire is being sold for as little as R60.

This prompted online users to poke fun at Thulo – with some likening the perfume’s packaging to a cigarette box – while also questioning her lack of “seriousness” to promote her product.

In response, the 33-year-old took to Instagram on Thursday, 18 April, in which she wrote in the comment section underneath a user’s screenshot of the discounted fragrance: “The business failed. Very disappointing. Life happened. But we try again and keep moving forward.”

She then posted photos of her branded products on her own Instagram page, writing: “Don’t be afraid to try. And never allow the fear of failure to cripple you. The dream was placed in your heart for a purpose. It will eventually work out exactly the way it’s meant to. We are still learning.”
