Britney Spears to Appear in Court Over Conservatorship
Britney Spears will appear in a California courtroom in an upcoming hearing over her ongoing conservatorship issues.
The 39-year-old popstar is expected to appear in Los Angeles Superior Court on 23 June to have her say regarding the “status of [her] conservatorship”, although her lawyer, Samuel Ingham, has not specified what she will say.
The hearing is the latest in the “Toxic” hitmaker’s legal battles since her father, Jamie Spears, became her conservator in 2008 – giving him control of her estate and finances.
However, according to court papers filed last year, Miss Spears has been fighting to remove her father from the legal guardianship, and give her sole power over her own estate.
In February a judge ruled that both Spears’ father and co-conservator, Bessemer Trust, should remain in charge.
Since then, a documentary titled “Framing Britney Spears” has been released, increasing focus on the case and support for the “#FreeBritney” social media campaign.
