Bucs to Extend Monnapule Saleng’s Contract
Orlando Pirates are looking to extend the current contract of midfielder Monnapule Saleng.
According to reports, Pirates were considering loaning out or even selling Saleng – who joined the club in 2021 – once his contract expired on 30 June this year.
However, following the recent departure of attacking midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch (who joined Mamelodi Sundowns), the Buccaneers are now keen to retain Saleng’s services.
“Saleng is one of the players that the team was planning to loan out or even sell,” a source explained to a local soccer publication on Thursday, 15 February. “His current contract is expiring this year, so they can’t afford to let him go either on a free [transfer] or on the cheap.
“So, this new contract will help the team benefit the player if it happens, that he moves from another club whether locally or to Europe.”
The new deal, which the source says is already “as good as done”, will add another two years to the 25-year-old’s current contract.
“This is a good move, mainly for the team,” the source continued. “This is to show that they still believe and hope he can rediscover his form.”
