Celeb Twitter Round-Up: All About Priddy Ugly’s “Dipstick” Pregnancy Announcement

Priddy Ugly is gonna be a daddy again, but not everyone is happy with the way he announced it!
Last Friday, 4 April, the “Ntja’ka” hitmaker – real name Ricardo Moloi – and his wife, Bontle Modiselle-Moloi, announced that they were expecting their second child. They did so with a highly-cinematographic skit, which was shared on Priddy Ugly’s Instagram account:
In the skit, Bontle is struggling to pull out a car dipstick, much to the frustration of her hubby. Their back-and-forth convo prompts their daughter, Afrika, to ask what they’re talking about. Priddy Ugly replies that they’re “just talking about pulling out” as Bontle pulls back her leather jacket to reveal her baby bump.
Well, that’s quite a … unique way to reveal a pregnancy! Not to mention it’s a none-too-subtle way to remind us how babies are made.
Naturally, this prompted mixed reactions from all quarters, with critics bashing the overtly sexual overtones of the clip (“Why didn’t you pull this dipstick out?” “Strong pull-out game!”). They also cringed at the fact that the couple involved Afrika, a whole five-year-old child, in the skit.
On Tuesday, 8 April, Priddy Ugly took to Twitter/X, where he posted this tweet in response to everyone’s feedback to the pregnancy announcement:
Now, we’re not 100% sure about the stats mentioned here. Nevertheless, the 33-year-old rapper makes a point: folks need to be a little kinder towards young families – particularly those of colour – when new life is on the way. After all, it’s the kind of news that needs to be celebrated rather than denigrated, especially during these dark times.
Some fans were in his corner:
A few seemed fed up, either by his phrasing or by what they perceived as him generalising:
Tweeps like @Katlehokdot and @BrianDakuse ran with the “dipstick” theme:
As for the rest, people explained that they didn’t particularly enjoy the execution of the announcement, with no hate on the news itself:
Personally, the “dipstick” skit would have been cool with just Priddy Ugly and Bontle involved, and maybe they could have followed up afterwards with a PG-rated pregnancy photoshoot or video with their daughter. But hey, to each their own.
In the end, it’s a teachable moment for everyone, and we can only hope we’ll all be able to come out of this situation as better people (and with an even better understanding of dipsticks!).
