Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Doja Cat Beefs With Dad – Again

They say you can’t choose your family but you do have a choice over how you interact with them, and Doja Cat’s relationship with her father, Dumisani Dlamini, is something you hear about so often you can’t help but wonder about choosing to listen or remain blissfully ignorant.

Mzansi heard a fresh new batch of drama between the father and daughter this week when her first-ever South African gig, which forms part of the Global Citizen “Move Afrika” Tour, was marred by a public spat between the two.

The 30-year-old songstress – real name Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini – was strutting her stuff at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, Gauteng, last Friday, 20 March, but took some time out before then to share a couple of posts on TikTok that she labelled, “The Deadbeat Chronicles”. The compilation detailed how her dad had decided against showing up at her gig because of lack of communication on her end.

She admitted to ostensibly trying to offer her 62-year-old father tickets, but eventually the whole matter devolved into a “he said, she said” situation; Dlamini senior claimed that he pitched but was turned away at the venue.

Some fans noticed the elder Dlamini at the event and recorded his solitary wandering. He eventually recorded himself and shared that he had been kicked out. What actually happened was debated amongst X/Twitter users.

To make matters even more confusing and complicated, he had recently shared why he was largely absent in his daughter’s life. Tweeps weren’t having any of it and loudly shared what they believed to be the reason why: himself.

Everyone chimed in for days after the debacle first aired and showed no signs of slowing down.

The conclusion that seemed to gain the most traction: she wanted to embarrass her pops and show off her fame.

Not being part of your child’s life is one thing, but then actively choosing to antagonise a parent who is trying to make an effort is a whole new level of petty that many netizens aspire to – these social media streets know no mercy!
