It’s another black day for South Africa’s entertainment industry: actress and comedienne Lebohang “Lettie” Mpyana has passed away at the age of 34.

Mpyana first shot to fame for her portrayal of the dramatic, vocally-talented and larger-than-life gossipmonger, Khelina, on the 2021 telenovela, “DiepCity”. The role earned her tons of recognition – including the Viewer’s Choice Best Actress award at the 2021 Royalty Soapie Awards – as well as loads of love from audiences.

News of her death was announced via Mpyana’s Facebook account on Thursday, 2 November: she had died following a bout with an undisclosed “short illness.” Memorial service and funeral service details are still to be confirmed.
