Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Tweeps Want #JusticeForAKA

The murder of AKA is a wound that continues to cut South Africans deep – now, that wound is bleeding even more following the arrest of six suspects in connection with his death.

AKA (real name Kiernan Forbes) was fatally shot in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal alongside his close friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, while leaving a popular restaurant along Florida Road on 10 February 2023. He was 35-years-old.

On Tuesday, 27 February – more than a year after this tragic incident – police minister Bheki Cele announced in a press conference that six suspects who allegedly played a hand in the “Mass Country” rapper’s death were in custody.

Per Cele, the suspects tailed AKA from King Shaka International Airport in Durban to his hotel in Umhlanga on 10 February. Later that evening, they followed him to the restaurant, where he and Tibz were gunned down.

Four of the suspects are scheduled to make an appearance in Durban Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Thursday 29 February. The other two suspects, who were arrested in Eswatini, have yet to arrive in South Africa. There are also talks of apprehending a seventh suspect.

It’s a step in the right direction for justice, which AKA’s fans are happy about. At the same time, though, it’s a painful reminder of the loss of a beloved figure:

Many tweeps expressed their disbelief that the alleged killers went to such extreme lengths to murder him and Tibz, and they hoped that, if found guilty, the suspects will get their comeuppance, provided that the case doesn’t drag out like Senzo Meyiwa’s:

What do you think, folks? Will we finally get the answers (and justice) that we’ve been looking for? Only time will tell.
