Chelsea Sink Leeds, Edge Closer to EPL Final Four
Chelsea fans are feeling the possibility of their team getting a sniff of silverware after a convincing 3-0 victory over Leeds United last night, Wednesday 11 May.
The crowd at Elland Road stadium in England were treated to a make-or-break match: Chelsea fighting for an English Premier League (EPL) quarter-finals spot, and Leeds circling the drain above the relegation zone.
Within the first few minutes of the game, the Blues opened up the scoreboard with a quick strike from midfielder Mason Mount.
Not 20 minutes later, the Peacocks’ frustration cost them when Daniel James made an ill-fated challenge on the Blues’ Mateo Kovacic, which earned him a red card and left his team with only ten men to play.
American Christian Pulisic poured on the pain with a long-distance punt to put Chelsea up two goals without response; his Belgian team-mate, Romelu Lukaku, added one more to the final score, and nailed Leeds’ coffin with seven agonising minutes left to play.
Chelsea remain third on the EPL table with 70 points, while Leeds languish in third-last place with 34 points. Needless to say, both teams need to win their next respective games to make progress.
