Chiefs Clinch Third With Victory
Kaizer Chiefs officially secured a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership following a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United on Sunday evening. The result at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane mathematically guarantees “Amakhosi” a spot in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup, as they now sit seven points clear of fourth-placed AmaZulu with only two rounds remaining.
Despite dominating possession, the Soweto giants were frustrated by “Babina Noko’s” disciplined defense for much of the match. The breakthrough eventually came from an unlikely source in the 86th minute. Substitute Tashreeq Morris, making his first league appearance of the season, turned home a low cross from Man of the Match Glody Lilepo. Mfundo Vilakazi then doubled the lead in stoppage time, converting a clinical penalty after Lilepo was fouled in the box.
Following the match, Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef expressed his satisfaction with the squad’s depth and perseverance. Hailing the impact of his substitutes, Ben Youssef stated that Tashreeq Morris is a player who is “always ready” when called upon. He further emphasized the club’s trajectory, noting that the squad “deserve to have at least three players going to the World Cup” based on their recent progress. With continental football secured, Chiefs turn their focus to their final fixtures against AmaZulu on 16 May and Chippa United on 23 May.
