Chiefs Target Gallo, Mosimane for Coaching Role
Kaizer Chiefs are targeting a Brazilian candidate among others to take over the reins as coach.
In recent years, Amakhosi have been struggling to attain their former glory. With interim coach Cavin Johnson at the helm, they’re currently sitting in sixth place with 26 points on the Premier Soccer League table – a far cry from being in the top five as in previous years.
To improve their lot, they are scouring both the local and international soccer scenes for their next coach. So far, Alexandre Gallo of Brazil and Gauteng’s own Pitso Mosimane are on the shortlist, which reportedly includes five names.
“Among the five shortlisted is the Brazilian coach Mr Gallo,” a source told a local soccer outlet on Friday, 1 March. “But he is not, like, the first choice. The first choice is obviously Pitso.
“[Chiefs] are looking at a local coach first and Mosimane is on top of the list, but if for other reasons they can’t get him, then Mr Gallo is the second choice.”
Of course, club finances and managerial obligations (Mosimane is currently coaching Saudi Arabian outfit, Abha FC) will be taken into consideration when Chiefs finally choose Johnson’s replacement.
