Conte’s Rant Lands Him in Hot Water with Tottenham
An extraordinary rant from Tottenham Hotspur manager, Antonio Conte, has led many to believe that he may be released from his duties soon.
The 53-year-old manager launched into a furious tirade in the post-match press conference after the Spurs came to a 3-3 draw against Southampton at Saint Mary’s Stadium in Southampton, England on Saturday, 18 March.
During the rant, the hot-headed Italian called his players “selfish” before adding that they are “not a team”. Conte was required to clarify his remarks to the club’s board of directors later that same night, whom he had also accused of “finding excuses for the players” and providing alibis.
The head coach’s contract will expire at the end of the season, with rumours swirling that he may be released before then.
“Conte wants to be sacked in this international break,” pundit Jamie Carragher tweeted after watching the rant. “Spurs should just put him out of his misery and do it tonight.”
“Tottenham have a history of sacking managers, even before cup finals. When you start singling out players, that’s a sure-fire way to lose a dressing room,” added commentator Jamie Redknapp.
Thankfully, the club has two weeks to figure out its plan, as their next scheduled match is only on Monday, 3 April, against Everton.
