David Copperfield Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Famed US magician, David Copperfield, has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women.

On Wednesday, 15 May, an exposé was published in the British publication, “The Guardian”, in which 16 women claimed that Copperfield took advantage of them in various ways, including groping, forcing the women to touch him, and other forms of misconduct.

These incidents – which allegedly occurred between 1980 and 2014 – primarily took place during Copperfield’s shows, in which the women were invited onstage to assist in his magic tricks. Many of the victims were underage at the time.

One woman, who is referred to in the exposé as “Gillian”, claimed that in the early ‘90s, Copperfield had invited her and her friend to his hotel suite in Las Vegas, Nevada after a show.

There, he drugged them both and proceeded to have non-consensual sex with them.

“I am 56-years-old now,” said Gillian. “Never in my life have I had a time where I don’t consciously remember [a period of time] … I would never just say this to somebody if I didn’t truly, honest to God believe that I was drugged at that time.”

Copperfield’s legal team has since denied all allegations of sexual misconduct, saying that their client “will take such steps as may be appropriate over these false and scurrilous allegations.”
