Eddie Howe Appointed as Newcastle’s Coach
After a long wait, Newcastle United have announced the appointment of Eddie Howe as its new manager on a deal that will run until 2024.
Three weeks ago, coach Steve Bruce mutually parted ways from the club after it was sold to a Saudi Arabian consortium for a reported £305 million. Graeme Jones was temporarily holding the reins until a manager was appointed.
In a statement posted on their website on Monday, 8 November, Newcastle confirmed that Howe will take charge of the squad.
They broke the 43-year-old Englishman’s stats down: “As well as amassing more than 300 senior appearances for the south coast side as a player, he also has the distinction of managing AFC Bournemouth through all four tiers of English football, culminating in five years in the Premier League between 2015 and 2020.”
Howe called his appointment a “great honour”, and that it was a “very proud day for me and my family.”
He continued: “I am eager to get onto the training ground to start working with the players. I would like to thank the club’s owners for this opportunity and thank the club’s supporters for the incredible welcome they have already given me. I am very excited to begin our journey together.”
