Edson Castillo’s Future at Chiefs Revealed
Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly made a decision regarding midfielder Edson Castillo.
Last July, Castillo joined Chiefs from Venezuelan outfit, Monagas SC. He signed a two-year deal, which included an option to add another year.
However, per recent reports, the 30-year-old midfielder was unhappy at Naturena and was seriously considering an offer from Egyptian club, Zamalek SC.
Speaking to a local media outlet (published on Wednesday, 11 September), an anonymous source commented:
“[Chiefs have] looked into it and have decided that they will keep him until the end of his contract in June 2025. And, depending on the end of the season report from [coach Nasreddine Nabi] and his technical team, they will take the final decision then. But for now, they will keep him until the end of his contract.”
Another source added that while Amakhosi have yet to actually consider renewing Castillo’s one-year option, they are still keen on retaining him until the end of the 2024/25 season.
“For now, the coach has shown that he will be using him together with Samkelo [Zwane] and Yusuf Maart in that holding position … and that’s why they’re keeping him for this season,” the second source explained.
