Ex-Chiefs Star, 40, Found Dead

The local soccer community has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of former AmaZulu FC defensive midfielder, Mduduzi Nxele, at the age of 40.

Reports state that Nxele was found dead at his home in Phoenix, Durban several days ago. Police officers discovered the corpse, which was hanging presumably from the ceiling. His hands and legs were also tied up.

“Nxele was a good player, full of respect because we come from the same township – KwaMashu,” said Siyabonga Nomvethe, former Kaizer Chiefs star and a contemporary of Nxele. “I’m from C section, as you know, while he’s from B … To hear such painful news, it came as a surprise because it was not something I expected.

“This brutality of him being killed like this, it is painful because I don’t remember him as a person who was troublesome because he was a football player.”

From the early 2000s until his retirement in July 2011, Nxele plied his trade in the Premier Soccer League, playing for the likes of AmaZulu, Lamontville Golden Arrows and Durban Stars FC.

Nxele’s funeral is reportedly set to take place this weekend. Presumably, the police are currently investigating his death.
