French Editor Comments on Ballon d’Or Leaks
The Ballon d’Or award ceremony may only be happening at the end of the month, but an Internet leak has French soccer editor-in-chief, Pascal Ferre, doing damage control.
Many fans and punters are confident that superstar Lionel Messi will be lifting the coveted footballing award – as he has done so on six previous occasions – but recent so-called leaks on social media claim that Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski, has won the most votes to become the winner of the 2021 award.
“France Football”’s – who also hosts the prestigious gala – Pascal Ferre spoke to a German sports outlet on Sunday, 7 November, and rubbished the rumours.
Ferre said: “That’s a lot of b******t we’ve seen in the last ten days. A big bluff.”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the football outlet cancelled the event last year, whereby Lewandowski was originally tipped to win the Ballon ‘dOr. The 2019/20 season saw him score 23 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions, and this good form carried over into the current Bundesliga campaign, with many giving him the nod once more.
The true winner will be revealed at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France on 29 November.
