Golden Globes 2025: Top Contenders and Surprise Snubs
The 2025 Golden Globe nominations have kicked off awards season with an exciting blend of veteran stars, newcomers, and diverse storytelling.
Leading the pack is “Emilia Pérez”, director Jacques Audiard’s bold crime musical about a cartel boss’ transformation. It has 10 nominations, including Best Comedy or Musical, and a historic nod for actress Karla Sofía Gascón.
Drama heavyweights “The Brutalist” and “Conclave” follow with seven and six nominations, respectively, and recognise stars Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Ralph Fiennes. Musical adaptation “Wicked” is also a standout, with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande earning acting nods.
Television categories feature British and Irish talent prominently, with Keira Knightley (“Black Doves”), Gary Oldman (“Slow Horses”), and Ewan McGregor (“A Gentleman in Moscow”) among the nominees. Meanwhile, “The Bear” led television nods with five, trailed by “Shōgun” and “Only Murders in the Building”.
Kate Winslet and Selena Gomez emerge as double nominees, while notable snubs include Saoirse Ronan (“The Outrun”) and Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two”.
Winners will be announced on 5 January 2025, in a ceremony that marks a revitalised Golden Globes, showcasing expanded diversity and international perspectives ahead of the Oscars in March.
