Guardiola Ponders Man City Exit
Pep Guardiola has suggested that he may leave his position as manager of Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of the next season.
The news comes just moments after the 53-year-old Spaniard made English Premier League (EPL) history by leading the club to claiming four successive league titles last night, Sunday 19 May. The Citizens secured their throne with a 3-1 win over West Ham United at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England.
Arsenal – who were Man City’s biggest competition for the title – scraped together a 2-1 win over Everton, but it simply wasn’t enough to keep them at the top of the EPL table.
The day’s nail-biting results mean that Gaurdiola’s men will be closing the 2023/2024 season with 91 points and the Gunners will be sitting just two points below them.
For Guardiola – who arrived at City in 2016 – the victory does not mean that his future is set in stone just yet.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, he said: “The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying. We have talked with the club – my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But eight or nine years – we will see.”
