Guardiola Takes Ownership of City’s Season of Struggles
Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, has taken full responsibility for the team’s struggles this season.
The 53-year-old Spaniard’s recent admission comes after City’s disappointing 2-1 English Premier League defeat to Aston Villa last Saturday, 21 December.
Although the Citizens managed a late goal, it was too little too late, marking just one win in their last 12 matches across all competitions.
What’s more, with a relatively poor performance throughout the current UEFA Champions League (UCL) season – including a 2-0 loss to Juventus on 11 December – the English club now sits in 22nd place on the UCL log with only eight points.
Guardiola acknowledged his shortcomings, saying, “The first [person] I’m looking at is myself; I haven’t been doing things good enough. I have to do better; it’s a lot on me, and I haven’t been good enough.”
Meanwhile, City’s star striker Erling Haaland believes that Guardiola will bounce back and help turn the team’s fortunes around.
“He won the Premier League six times in seven years, so we will never forget that,” Haaland remarked. “He will find the solutions. He has been doing that every single year. We still believe in him; we have to work harder than ever right now.”
