Ipswich Win Upsets Chelsea Title Chase

Ipswich Town delivered a stunning 2-0 victory over Chelsea on Monday night, 30 December, securing their first English Premier League (EPL) home victory in over two decades.

Goals from Liam Delap and former Chelsea player Omari Hutchinson sealed the win, lifting the hosts to 18th place on the EPL table and just one point away from moving out of the relegation zone.

Chelsea, who had emerged as surprise title contenders after an eight-match winning streak, suffered their second consecutive defeat following a loss to Fulham on Boxing Day. Enzo Maresca’s side now sits fourth in the league with 35 points, 10 points behind log leaders Liverpool.

Maresca maintained his earlier stance that the Blues are not yet ready to compete for the league cup: “This means and shows that we are in the right direction, as I’ve said many times, but also shows that we are far from competing [with] consistency.”

Tractor Boys manager, Kieran McKenna, hailed the victory as a “special night” for the club, with both goals sparking jubilant celebrations in the stands.

“We have been competing in almost every game. If you do that, you always have a chance,” McKenna added.
