Leah Remini Launches Lawsuit Against Church of Scientology
After being at loggerheads with the Church of Scientology for many years, Leah Remini is now suing them.
After breaking away from the church in 2013, the 53-year-old “King of Queens” actress has been somewhat of an anti-Scientology advocate. She famously exposed their workings in her docu-series, “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath”, which ran from 2016 to 2019.
Per documents filed on Wednesday, 2 August, at a superior court in Los Angeles, California, Remini is suing the church and its leader, David Miscavige, for a myriad of alleged offences.
“For the past ten years, Ms Remini has been stalked, surveilled, harassed, threatened, intimidated,” the documents read, “and, moreover, has been the victim of intentional malicious and fraudulent rumours via hundreds of Scientology-controlled and -co-ordinated social media accounts that exist solely to intimidate and spread misinformation.”
As such, she is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for their actions.
Remini was more direct with her words in a subsequent press release: “For 17 years, Scientology and David Miscavige have subjected me to what I believe to be psychological torture, defamation, surveillance, harassment and intimidation, significantly impacting my life and career.
“I believe I am not the first person targeted by Scientology and its operations, but I intend to be the last.”
