Liverpool Comes Alive to Crush Leeds 6-1

Liverpool FC shook off their slump to score a stunning 6-1 over a struggling Leeds United at Elland Road.

With the middling performances they’ve been giving all season, the Reds have clearly seen better days – fortunately for the eighth-placed club, Monday, 17 April was one of them as they steamrolled over their hosts in their English Premier League-match-up.

Cody Gakpo was the first to open the scoreboard in the 35th minute. Leeds’ Luis Sinisterra would score an equaliser 12 minutes later, but it was all downhill from there for the home team.

Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah contributed the rest of the goals for the visitors, with Salah scoring a crucial brace.

Coach Jurgen Klopp was certainly pleased with his side’s performance, the best one since their crushing 7-0 win over Manchester United in March.

“[I am] really happy about that game,” Klopp said in a post-match interview. “I think we forced a lot of errors, [scored] sensational goals; counter-pressing-wise, it was the best for, I want to say, decades.

But will Liverpool be able to repeat this performance in order to claim a top-four finish? The 55-year-old German is uncertain.

“I have no clue if we can get close, but I don’t think it’s too important. I would like to see us with the same desire, the same passion, the same understanding that we showed tonight.”
