Make-or-Break Week for Everton
Everton experienced a series of unfortunate events in the 2023/2024 season, and this week could either be the light at the end of the tunnel or the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
The Toffees are currently sitting in 18th place on the English Premier League (EPL) table with 19 points. They will have a chance to climb the ladder a bit tonight, Monday 19 February, when they host Crystal Palace at Goodison Park Stadium in Liverpool, England.
While predictions rule in favour of the hosts, it’s unlikely that Palace will be willing to go down without a fight as they’re also facing pressure from their own fans to rise through the EPL ranks.
Unfortunately, even if Everton walks away from the match with a win, their ongoing woes will not simply dissolve into the ether: the club is currently waiting to hear a verdict on their appeal over charges of the breach of EPL profit and sustainability rules, which saw them slapped with a 10-point deduction.
As the appeal was officially lodged at the beginning of February, pundits are expecting a verdict soon.
Both outcomes need to be positive if Everton is to avoid relegation from the top-tier British league, which would be their first in 73 years.
