Man U to Reach Decision on Onana’s Future
Manchester United have reportedly decided to offload goalkeeper Andre Onana, despite the player’s desire to return to Old Trafford and reclaim the top spot.
The 30-year-old Cameroon international is currently on a season-long loan at Trabzonspor, where he has made 25 appearances for the Turkish side this season.
United hierarchy have prioritised a total goalkeeping restructure centered on Senne Lammens. The 23-year-old Belgian has cemented his status as the first choice, conceding 32 goals in 25 English Premier League games and helping the Red Devils climb to third in the table. Keeping Onana as a backup is viewed as financially unrealistic due to his substantial £120 000-a-week contract.
United paid £47.2 million to Inter Milan for Onana in 2023 and hope to recoup a significant portion of that fee. While Trabzonspor is interested in a permanent deal, they have admitted the current valuation is beyond their budget. Other potential suitors include Besiktas, Monaco, and clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
With Altay Bayindir also expected to depart and veteran Tom Heaton likely to stay as a mentor, United’s vision for a leaner, Lammens-led department is becoming clear ahead of the summer window.
