Man United Thrash Southampton 9-0
Manchester United ran riot over a nine-man Southampton on Tuesday evening, 2 February, clinching a 9-0 victory at Old Trafford.
At the end of the first half, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani contributed to the Reds’ tally, with Saints’ Jan Bednarek scoring an own goal. By the end one of the first half, the visitors were down 4-0.
Come the second half, United’s Anthony Martial scored twice, while team-mates Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James each netted goals.
Following the match, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised his players for their performances on the pitch.
He said: “We have been waiting for [the front players] to show the magic, and tonight was the night for them to go and enjoy; we haven’t had too many of them.”
The Norwegian coach added: “What I liked about the performance was the hunger and attitude to do the right things, get better and better, practise the good habits, and that’s the only way we can improve and get better.”
With 44 points, United are now tied for first place on the English Premier League table with Manchester City.
