Maresca Confident of Chelsea Squad Management

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, is focused on keeping his large squad happy as they prepare for their UEFA Europa Conference League match at home against Gent tonight, Thursday 3 October.

In his first season at Stamford Bridge, the 44-year-old Italian football boss has led Chelsea to four consecutive wins, lifting them to fourth place in the English Premier League rankings.

However, big-name players like Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, Pedro Neto and Mykhailo Mudryk have seen limited playing time. Maresca emphasised his effort to balance on-field minutes, acknowledging the difficult task of giving everyone a chance.

He highlighted Mudryk’s recent performance in the League Cup against Barrow and noted that football’s dynamics change quickly, meaning players like Nkunku may soon play more often.

Key players like Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, and Wesley Fofana have been left out of the Conference League squad to manage their workloads. Maresca stressed the need to protect players, although Palmer has been a standout, scoring all four goals in Chelsea’s recent 4-2 win over Brighton.

Despite the Blues enduring tumultuous times due to recent challenges under new ownership, Maresca believes the team is on the right path and exceeding his expectations.
