Mendy Merchandise Removed from Man City’s Website
Manchester City have taken the steps to distance themselves from defender Benjamin Mendy by removing all of his merchandise from their website.
Mendy was suspended by the reigning English Premier League champions after he was charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault last week. According to reports, these incidents allegedly took place between October 2020 and August 2021.
As of Tuesday, 14 September, the Citizens’ website have removed the 27-year-old Frenchman’s merch from their online shop; those who try to search for his shirt or player name are immediately taken back to the homepage.
His player profile is still available, although it makes it clear that he is suspended from the team.
Remanded in police custody, Mendy is scheduled to appear in court on 24 January next year, where he will undergo a trial that will likely last up to three weeks.
