Mourinho Takes Swipe at Man United

Jose Mourinho has always been a man for boasting his accomplishments and inflating his self-worth, but his recent comments included a cheeky side-swipe at Manchester United.

On Tuesday, 8 June, the AS Roma coach was talking to TV host, James Corden, when he commented that his career as a football manager had earned him “25 and a half trophies … the half is the final I didn’t play with Tottenham.”

The “Special One”’s’ last two coaching stints – with Man U and Tottenham Hotspur – both ended abruptly. However, the three-time English Premier League winner can boast that he was the last coach to deliver silverware to the Red Devils by winning the Europa League title in 2017.

Mourinho expressed that his expectations for his old team have dropped, and subtly aimed the remarks at his Old Trafford successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has had a rough time showing that he is a good fit for the club since taking over in 2018.

He said: “I am very optimistic, but I am very realistic. When we did that at Manchester United by winning the Europa League, and the domestic cup, I felt for the next step it would not be enough.”
