Naledi Aphiwe’s Stage Crash Triggers Audience Backlash

Singer Naledi Aphiwe earned the ire of festival-goers over the weekend following her antics at the Mthandeni’s Summer Experience in eMdletsheni, KwaZulu-Natal.

On Saturday night, 4 January, Aphiwe was scheduled to perform immediately after Maskandi artist, Khuzani “Gatsheni” Ndlovu.

However, while Gatsheni and his dancers were still performing, the 18-year-old songstress took to the stage and abruptly began her set, interrupting his performance.

Video clips circulating online capture the frustration of the audience, with some attendees booing and throwing bottles at Aphiwe, who is seen being escorted off the stage for her own safety.

While a few users on Twitter/X argued that Gatsheni ran over his timeslot, many others placed the blame squarely on Aphiwe for cutting the “Isithombe Sami” hitmaker’s performance short.

“Her DJ starting a song while an artist and his dancers were on stage was unprofessional,” tweeted entertainment blogger Phil Mphela. “Professionally, if they felt Aphiwe had to be on stage at that specific time, they should have let the host/event organisers be the ones to cut the other artist’s set and introduce the next act.”
