New Bucs Goalie Loaned Out to Another Club

Newly-signed Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Sphamandla Gumede, is joining another club before the new season has even begun.

On Monday, 24 July, ABC Motsepe League outfit Dondol Stars confirmed that Gumede was transferring to the Buccaneers, having signed a three-year contract with a two-year option to extend it.

Nicknamed the “Spider Kid”, the 23-year-old has been imperative in keeping Dondol Stars on top of the league rankings, as well as helping them clinch the league championship last season.

Now, most recent reports state that Gumede will be joining Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Orbit College, albeit on a season-long loan.

This is due to an influx of goalkeepers at Orlando Stadium as of late: Siyabonga Mpontshane, Sipho Chaine, Richard Ofori and Melusi Buthelezi already make up the club’s shot-stopper line-up.

Although his own shot-stopping skills are impressive already, it won’t do Gumede any harm to hone them further while out on loan with Orbit College. Still, we can only hope he’ll find his way back to Pirates in no time!
