Norway: Man Arrested for Bow-and-Arrow Attack
Five people have been killed and two wounded after a Danish man allegedly used a bow and arrow to attack them in the Norwegian town of Kongsberg.
Last night, Wednesday 13 October, the 37-year-old suspect – who has yet to be identified, but is reportedly known to the Kongsberg police – allegedly commenced the attack either inside or nearby the Coop Extra supermarket in the city centre.
A witness explained to a local media outlet that after hearing a commotion, she saw “a man standing on the corner with arrows in a quiver on his shoulder and a bow in his hand.”
She said: “Afterwards, I saw people running for their lives. One of them was a woman holding a child by the hand.”
Thirty minutes after the attack, the suspect was apprehended and taken to a police station in nearby Drammen. According to his defence lawyer, Fredrik Neumann, his client was questioned for over three hours and was co-operating with the authorities.
Terrorism has not been ruled out as a motive for the attack; more information will emerge as the investigation continues.
