Orlando Pirates Release Another Player
Yet another player has been let go by Orlando Pirates, just a few days after the club won the 2024 Nedbank Cup final.
On Monday, 3 June, the champions confirmed the release of Cameroonian striker, Souaibou Marou – and now, his teammate Fortune Makaringe has also gotten the chop.
The Bucs confirmed the news of Makaringe’s departure on Tuesday, 4 June.
“Following four incredible seasons and over 140 matches, our journey with the 31-year-old midfielder has come to an end,” a statement posted on their website reads. “Words cannot fully express our gratitude and appreciation for Makaringe.
“Throughout his time with us, he consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism and discipline. The club will always be grateful for his contribution and wishes him nothing but the best in his future endeavours.”
Having fallen out of favour with coach Jose Riveiro, Makaringe had very limited playing time: he only made 11 appearances and scored one goal across all competitions during the 2023/24 season.
With two key players now gone, it will be interesting to see how Pirates rebuild and strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
