Pirates Seek Top Spot in Durban Against In-Form AmaZulu

Orlando Pirates travel to Durban this Tuesday, 3 February, for a high-stakes Betway Premiership clash against AmaZulu FC.

Currently sitting in first position on the Premier Soccer League, the Buccaneers have the chance to move three points clear of Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs with a victory at King Zwelithini Stadium.

However, the visitors face a confident Usuthu side. Arthur Zwane’s men currently rank 4th in the league and enter the fixture protecting a perfect start to the calendar year. AmaZulu’s defensive “low block” and the pace of Mlondi Mbanjwa are expected to be key tactical hurdles for Abdeslam Ouaddou’s marauding side.

The contest features several of the league’s top-rated performers. Pirates’ winger Deon Hotto is a confirmed threat, ranked third in the competition for big chances created, while AmaZulu’s Darren Johnson remains one of the league’s most effective goalkeepers.

Writing on the potential impact of his young stars ahead of the match, coach Abdeslam Ouaddou said: “He can imbalance any team in the world,” referring to the threat posed by Relebohile Mofokeng.

Kick-off is scheduled for 17:30 UTC, with both sides desperate to maintain their early 2026 momentum.
