Prince Harry in a Spot of Legal Bother

Prince Harry seems to have found himself on the wrong side of both British and American laws, as both countries have separate court cases involving the royal.

In England, the 38-year-old Duke of Sussex failed to appear at the High Court in London on Monday, 5 June, where he is suing Mirror Group Newspapers, a local tabloid publisher. He will, instead, face several hours of questioning today, Tuesday 6 June, in what will be the first time a senior British royal has given evidence in court for 130 years.

The Prince is one of more than 100 other high-profile figures – including musician Elton John, actresses Elizabeth Hurley and Sadie Frost, and more – who are suing the group for unlawful information-gathering between 1991 and 2011, which includes alleged phone-hacking.

On the other side of the pond, a judge in Washington, DC will also be hearing from the Heritage Foundation – a conservative collective – today, as they argue that Harry’s visa application should be made public after he revealed his past narcotics use in his new memoir, “Spare”.

The book – which was released in January – refers to the Prince’s use of illicit substances, which could constitute as grounds for denial of an American visa application.
