PSL Window: Chiefs Stand Still as Rivals Splash Cash
As the January 2026 transfer window intensifies, a stark divide has emerged in the Betway Premiership.
While Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have dominated headlines with high-profile acquisitions, Kaizer Chiefs have signalled a controversial period of inactivity at Naturena.
Football Manager Bobby Motaung officially closed the door on mid-season spending today, insisting the club is “satisfied” with its current roster. Motaung said: “We are satisfied with our current squad because some of our players had injuries, but they are back now.”
He emphasised that the 11 signings made at the start of the season need more time to settle, adding, “It’s not easy to join Chiefs; it takes time for some players to settle.”
This stance has sparked a wave of frustration among the Amakhosi faithful. On social media, fans expressed concern that the club is falling behind.
One supporter noted, “We’ll keep dealing with the likes of [Pule] Mmodi (a current striker),” while others on Pulse Sports lamented the lack of a “clinical striker” to turn draws into wins.
In contrast, Orlando Pirates finalized the signing of Zimbabwean winger Daniel Msendami this week, and Sundowns recently unveiled Colombian striker Brayan Leon in a deal worth approximately R65 million. For Chiefs, the gamble remains: will continuity or fresh talent win the race for the title?
