Relegation Looms on Brighton’s Horizon
Brighton are teetering on the edge of relegation after losing 2-1 to visitors Crystal Palace at Falmer Stadium on Monday, 22 February.
Palace were the first to open up the scoreboard when Jean-Phillipe Mateta scored with a backheel in the 28th minute.
At the 55th minute, Brighton’s Joel Veltman levelled the score – and made his first goal for the club in his 19th appearance – by punting the ball into the bottom-right corner of the net.
Alas for the Seagulls, the Eagles pulled through at the 95th minute, thanks to a stunning volley from striker Christian Benteke.
Brighton coach, Graham Potter, commented after the match: “It’s sore. I’m bitterly disappointed with the result because I thought we were the team pushing all the way, trying to get the winner ourselves. We have to respond, accept it, and – as painful as it is – we have to move forward.”
Potter’s side lingers at 16th place on the English Premier League Rankings with 26 points – four points clear of the relegation zone.
