Shania Twain Forgives Ex-Husband for Cheating
Country songstress Shania Twain has forgiven her ex-husband for making the “great mistake” that led to their divorce.
In 2008, Twain’s 15-year marriage to record producer, Robert “Mutt” Lange, became strained after he had an affair with her good friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud.
The couple divorced two years later, with Lange going on to marry Thiébaud, while Twain got hitched to Thiébaud’s ex-husband, Frédéric.
Appearing as a guest on the “Great Company with Jamie Laing” podcast earlier this week, the “You’re Still The One” hitmaker claimed that she had forgiven Lange for his actions.
“Forgiveness is in the family of letting go,” she told Laing. “But forgiveness, more specifically for me anyway, is not about forgetting necessarily. It’s about understanding the other person, and that might mean that they’re wrong.”
The 58-year-old continued: “Do I hate my ex-husband for making a mistake? No. It’s his mistake. Not my mistake. So sad for him that he made such a great mistake that he has to live with … [but] that’s not my weight.”
As for Marie-Anne Thiébaud, however, Twain is less than forgiving: “I don’t see her, ever. I don’t invite that trigger into my life … She’s not my future – she’s my past.”
