Spurs Fan Charged For Ramsdale Assault
The Metropolitan Police of London, England, have arrested and charged a man on Tuesday, 17 January for assaulting Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Thirty-five-year-old Tottenham Hotspur fan, Joseph Watts, has been charged with “assault by beating, going on to an area adjacent to a playing area and throwing a missile on to a football playing area”.
Watts was filmed kicking Ramsdale in the back after the Gunners won Sunday’s, 15 January, north London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by 2-0. The goalie was named “Man of the Match” after his performance, but has said the incident left a “sour taste” in his mouth.
A police statement released on Tuesday revealed that, “The Met’s Football Investigations Team were assisted in their enquiries by Tottenham,” who have also promised to immediately ban the offending supporter from their stadium.
“He is due to appear at the Highbury Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 17 February,” the statement went on to add.
The Football Association have also condemned the attack, calling it “wholly unacceptable behaviour” and saying that they would work together with “the relevant authorities and the clubs to ensure the appropriate action is taken.”
The Gunners are yet to release an official statement on the matter.
