Sundowns Run Ramshod Over Royal AM 5-1

Mamelodi Sundowns continued to dominate the competition as they steamrolled over Royal AM at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Tuesday, 14 March.

The hosts set the tone early on when Cassius Mailula propelled the ball into the top corner of the net in the 21st minute. Six minutes later, they doubled the lead when Royal goalkeeper Zakahle Xolani mistakenly scored an own goal.

But it was striker Peter Shalulile who proved to be Sundowns’ lucky charm: after scoring in the 42nd minute, he completed a brace nine minutes later, taking the tally to 4-0.

The cherry on the cake came in the form of Mothobi Mvala’s clean header in the 74th minute. Despite Royal’s valiant efforts – which resulted in their only goal in the 68th minute, courtesy of substitute Lantshene Phalane – Sundowns walked with a 5-1 victory.

As a result, Mamelodi Sundowns remain at the top of the Premier Soccer League rankings with 59 points, while Royal AM occupy seventh place with 29 points.

Sundowns have at least seven league games to go, but if all their on-pitch performances are anything to go by, it will be smooth sailing on the journey towards claiming their sixth consecutive championship.
