Sundowns Set for R57m Colombian Striker Deal
Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly finalising a significant transfer to bring Colombian forward Brayan Leon to South Africa.
According to reports, the 25-year-old is set to join the Brazilians from Independiente Medellín in a deal valued at approximately $3.5 million (over R57 million), which includes a sell-on clause.
Confirming the move via X on Saturday, 3 January, sports journalist Fabrizio Romano stated: “Brayan Leon leaves the club to join Mamelodi Sundowns for a $3.5m package plus sell-on clause.”
Le0n arrives following a prolific 2025 season, during which he recorded 13 goals and seven assists. His arrival addresses a tactical shift under coach Miguel Cardoso, as existing forwards like Arthur Sales and Iqraam Rayners have recently been utilised in wider roles, while Peter Shalulile’s game time has decreased.
The signing has immediate implications for the squad’s foreign player quota. With Leon occupying the final available spot alongside players like Marcelo Allende and Nuno Santos, there is no longer room for midfielder Matias Esquivel following his return from a loan spell in Greece.
This high-profile acquisition signals Sundowns’ intent to bolster their frontline ahead of the second half of the 2025/26 campaign.
