Title Race Heats Up as Liverpool Beat Southampton 2-1
Liverpool have sent a resounding message to log leaders, Manchester City, after picking up a 2-1 win against Southampton on Tuesday, 17 May.
Playing at home at St Mary’s Stadium, the Saints first opened up the lead after Nathan Redmond scored a right-foot strike at the 13th minute mark.
Luckily for coach Jurgen Klopp, the Reds levelled the score 14 minutes later, thanks to an incredible drive shot from forward Takumi Minamino. At the 67th minute, team-mate Joel Matip sent a looping header over Southampton keeper Alex McCarthy.
Liverpool are now sitting pretty in second place on the English Premier League rankings with 89 points – merely one point behind reigning champions, Manchester City.
If Liverpool win their match-up against Wolverhampton Wanderers this Sunday, 22 May, and if City fail to win their match against Aston Villa that same day, then Klopp’s side will be crowned league champions.
So, who will come out on top this season? Tune in this Sunday to find out!
