US Town Gifts Delivery Man $1 000

The people of Dauphin, Pennsylvania recently came together to thank a package delivery man who has been hard at work during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

For 10 years, Chad Turns – a longtime employee at the United Parcel Service – has been delivering packages and parcels to Dauphin’s residents.

When COVID-19 broke out, it did not slow Turns’ efforts to carry out his duty. In fact, he has been on the job every day, working 60-to-70 hours a week to deliver the goods.

In response, Jenny and Adam Shickley launched a fundraising campaign in order to throw him a thank-you party.

Mr Shickley said: “The truth is that [my wife] was going to set it up and try to get $200 through PayPal, and she mistyped and put it in $500. And she was like, ‘I’m going to leave it. Whatever we get, we get.’”

Ultimately, they raised more than $1 000, with the community chipping in to buy gifts and gift cards. On Tuesday, 2 March, they gathered at the local municipal building to surprise Turns, who was expecting to pick up a parcel.

Instead, he was greeted by thank-you signs, an autographed card filled with messages from the townspeople, and presented with the gifts and money.

A grateful Turns said: “It was very overwhelming. The idea that they even thought of me to do anything … To go above and beyond and do what they did was truly amazing to me.”
