Will Guardiola Break Sir Alex Ferguson’s Trophy Record?
Pep Guardiola has so far won a total of 28 sparkling silverware, collected in the space of just 10 years as a football manager, but can he ever match Sir Alex Ferguson’s trophy haul?
Ferguson, who is often referred to as the greatest manager in football history, holds 48 trophies; 13 Premier League titles, 10 Community Cups, 5 FA Cups, 4 League Cups and 2 UEFA Champions League Cups.
However, Guardiola is close to breaking Ferguson’s record. He is now the first manager to win the domestic treble; consisting of the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup.
On Wednesday, 1 December 2021, the 50-year-old tactician broke the record for quickest boss to 150 Premier League wins in 205 EPL games – a milestone Ferguson only reached after 247 games.
The Spaniard received his 20th silverware at age 45, while the former Man United manager only received it at age 52.
Guardiola is expected to surpass Ferguson if he continues to win trophies at his current rate of 2.7 per season. He is already leading the EPL pack in title defense – and he is a favourite to win the 2021/22 season.
