Willian on Arsenal: I Wasn’t Happy
Brazilian winger, Willian, has lifted the lid on his brief stint with Arsenal – and it’s clear that it wasn’t a great one for him.
Last August, the 33-year-old signed a three-year contract with the Gunners on a free transfer from Chelsea. However, after scoring one goal in just 37 appearances in the English Premier League this season, he mutually parted ways with the club on 30 August this year.
In a recent interview with “Corinthians TV” – the official YouTube channel of his current club, Sport Club Corinthians Paulista – Willian spoke candidly about his short-lived Arsenal career.
He said: “I really thought a lot, together with my family and close people … I don’t need to go into details, but I wasn’t happy [at the club] and I thought that returning to Brazil was the best option.”
On his move to his former club, Willian added: “I studied some other opportunities, but I wanted to return to Corinthians, to my home, to be close to my family. It’s the club that projected me to the world, revealed me. The right time to come back was this.”
