Zenzo Ngqobe Wins Major Award

Homegrown talent Zenzo Ngqobe has received a prestigious international award in recognition of his acting chops.

Ngqobe – who previously starred in the popular ETV show, “Rhythm City”, before its cancellation in 2021 – received the Best Actor award at the International Black and Diversity Film Festival in Toronto, Canada last Tuesday, 12 July.

The award was given in recognition of his role as Kebakile in the Botswana short film, “Partly Hot and Cloudy”, which tells the story of a husband and wife who contend with the issue of male infertility.

“My win is for Africa,” Ngqobe remarked in a recent interview with a local media outlet. “I am for Africa. Both South Africa and Botswana are home to me. I still don’t really know what separates them. This win is for Africa because I am for Africa.”

Donald Molosi, who wrote and executive produced the film, praised Ngqobe for his performance, which was done entirely in Setswana.

“Zenzo has just beaten international, American and Canadian talent while performing completely in Setswana,” Molosi said. “I hope that this inspires us, speakers of this dying language, to use it more in life and in art.”
