Zozibini Tunzi, the Longest-Reigning Miss Universe

Zozibini Tunzi is going down in history as the longest-reigning Miss Universe ever.

The 27-year-old beauty queen was crowned Miss Universe on 8 December 2019 at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, making her the third South African after Margaret Gardiner and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters to win the prestigious title.

Now, after 467 days and counting, Tunzi officially has the longest title reign, breaking the record previously made by Leila Lopes of Angola – she held the crown for 464 days from September 2011 to December 2012.

This comes after the 2020 Miss Universe pageant was postponed to 16 May this year, amid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic last year.

The official Facebook page for Miss South Africa posted a message of congratulations to Tunzi on Wednesday, 17 March.

It reads: “Extraordinary times call for extraordinary leaders! Today we celebrate [Tunzi] as the longest-reigning Miss Universe! Thank you for taking up space and inspiring us all.”

Congrats to our reigning queen on her stunning achievement!
